Wahoo hosted its Gauteng Water Polo Festival @ Wahoo from the 10th April to the 11th April. The festival was made up of 8 clubs from Gauteng that were not participating at National Championships in Durban, and boasted a total of 20 fixtures! This was the first time the Senior Gauteng Club sides have been able to compete since Covid19 saw an end to sports fixtures. Given this context there was much excitement from the competing teams and participants came from all over Johannesburg. Players ranged in age from 15 to 75 and we even had a deaf athlete compete. Sponsorships from Devil's Peak Lager and Staunch Water Polo SA allowed Wahoo to provide the competing teams with a little bit extra to play for and there were certainly some humdinger match ups. Jeppe Water Polo Club and Wahoo Wanderers 1 proved to be amongst the top sides and their semi-final went right down to the wire, with Jeppe securing the victory in the dying seconds of the game. They went on to beat a Barbarians side in the final after some stiff competition all the way through.
